Group characteristics
Plants scrambling or vine-like, with entire or shallowly lobed adult leaves. Leaves geminate (in pairs). Stem prickles and branchlet prickles curved, widened at base. Stellate hairs present in all parts. Inflorescences not branched. Flowers bisexual, all of similar size, 5-merous, mauve. Calyx without prickles. Corolla lobes with sparse to dense hairs on inner face. Stamens with anthers all of similar size. Ovary with stellate hairs. Mature fruits green, yellowish green, yellow or orange, mesocarp moist not juicy, 2-locular, 13-35 mm diameter; calyx lobes about half length of mature fruit.

About 6 species total from Malesia to Australia, 3 species endemic in Australia.
